Weekend Preview: Street Tuner Mayhem, High School Drags highlight busy weekend at Bandimere Speedway
By Ronnie Kohrt
A busy weekend ahead at Bandimere Speedway as the race track plays host to several categories and classes on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The four-day weekend kicks off on Friday with the Corvette Connection Club Clash. In April's 2021 kick-off of the Club Clash, Bandimere Speedway saw a massive attendance of new racers and new racing teams.
Lead by Paul Hernandez Jr. (Top Street) and John Koenig (Hot Rod) racers competing for points also accrue points in team categories where Heavy Metal Racing currently holds the points lead in both the 5-person and all-team.
The Corvette Connection Club Clash has been a long standing, fun and relaxed atmosphere of racing for those who participate.
On Saturday the first points race of the year for the Sunoco King Street presented by MagnaFuel hits the race track.
It's the quickest street-legal hot rods Bandimere Speedway has on the mountain and racers must run between 7.50 and 12.75 to qualify. King Street cars all have mufflers, current license plates, registration, insurance, bumpers, grill, operating lights, etc just like a car you would find on the street, just much quicker!
Last year's champion in the Sunoco King Street category was Chris Wells driving his 1968 Pontiac Firebird. Wells was closely followed by the team of Ron and Rheanna Goscha in 2nd, Tim Larson and Kipp Smallwood in a tie for 3rd and Scott Czarnota and Jeff Raetz in a tie for 5th.
Saturday will also mark the first race of the year for the VDRA (or Vintage Drag Racing Association.)
Racing in several categories like our Flathead and Gassers category, VDRA throws drag racing back to the early days and brings the vintage back to the track!
The vintage race cars will hit the track alongside the Crossroads Trailer Jr. Drag Racing Series as well. Points leaders in their respective categories include Brenna Shannon (JD1,) Tristan Vehar (JD2,) and Adyson Vogel (JD3.)
It's a family fun atmosphere at Bandimere Speedway when the Jr. Drag Racing program races down Thunder Mountain! Spectators are welcome and tickets can be purchased by CLICKING HERE. Racers can purchase tech cards by CLICKING HERE.
The Crossroads Trailer Jr. Drag Racing Series is presented by our friends at Kinsco, MagnaFuel, Security Safe of Colorado, ColoradoLift, Pepsi, Fineline, JR Race Car, Lucas Slick Mist, Tops Heating and Air Conditioning and SRA Photo.
Sunday features the Heuberger Motors IDRC Street Tuner Mayhem. The premiere one-day event for street cars, tuners, domestic and imports at Bandimere Speedway!
Racing from modified imports to everyday vehicles take the race track in several categories over the day. A full car show and vendor midway is planned and it's all brought to you by Heuberger Motors!
The long holiday weekend wraps up with the long-standing Pepsi All-American High School Drags.
One of the longest running events in Bandimere Speedway history, every Memorial Day Bandimere brings out the best high school racers to the track to run for school pride and fun with our friends at Pepsi!
The weekend will end with an alumni category, high school racing, the Corridor Collision Jr. Street program and good ole' fashion school pride as Memorial Day caps the weekend at Bandimere Speedway!
