Previewing the 42nd edition of the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals

The Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals return to Thunder Mountain!

By Ronnie Kohrt

The biggest event in motorsports speeds into the Rocky Mountain region on July 15-17 as the NHRA begins the famed ‘western swing’ at Bandimere Speedway for the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals. Three days of heart-pounding, ground-shaking, nonstop drag racing action.

42 years and as special as ever.

There’s no experience that even comes close to describing what the body feels when 22,000 horsepower burning nitromethane leaves the starting line at Bandimere Speedway. Drag racing ignites all the senses and what a special eruption of power and spectacle that is that will highlight the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals this year.

In its 42nd year, fans at Bandimere Speedway will be treated to two sessions of nitromethane burning and pro racing fun on Friday, two sessions on Saturday before final eliminations caps the event on Sunday and there is PLENTY to look forward to this year!

  • The return of pro stock

Pro Stock Car returns to Thunder Mountain after a multi-year absence and what a difference the category will look like since pro stock last ran on the mountain in 2019.

While many young faces will look to conquer the thin-air, getting around the savvy veterans will be no easy task. It was Anderson who took the Wally in 2019 on Thunder Mountain and will remain the favorite going in. Anderson sits as the fourth winningest driver in the category at Denver with four wins at the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals only trailing ‘the professor’ Warren Johnson (5) and Bob Glidden and Allen Johnson, who both are tied for winningest driver in pro stock in Denver history with seven category victories.

Anderson - who is now pro stock's winningest driver - will, however, have his hands full with several newcomers to the category who will be making their Denver pro stock debuts including NHRA’s Rookie of the Year Dallas Glenn, Mason McGaha, Kyle Koretsky, Aaron Stanfield and Camrie Caruso, who recently brought on Jim Yates - former two-time Denver winner - as Crew Chief.

No ignoring the rest of the category, however, as tremendous talents like four-time champion Erica Enders still seeks her first Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High Nationals win, and hometown runner Deric Kramer out of Sterling, CO in his Get Biofuel Chevrolet Camaro will highlight a strong pro stock field.

  • More track records in Nitro?

In the nitro categories, Steve Torrence, Matt Hagan and Matt Smith will return looking to defend their win from the 2021 season and chase some records on Thunder Mountain, and speaking of records, Top Fuel driver Brittany Force’s 3.717 blast on Saturday of 2021’s edition of the Dodge // SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals marked the fastest E.T. in speedway history. She and the rest of the Top Fuel field will have to step up to take the mph record from Steve Torrence, however, who blew away the competition with a 330.31mph blast back in 2019, standing as the fastest mph in track history.

The new scenario change for several drivers and new race teams will be a first for many as Antron Brown, Ron Capps and Tony Stewart are just some of the new team owner names running in the fuel car ranks.

  • Every ticket is a pit pass

The most unique and beautiful feature built into your ticket at the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High NHRA Nationals is that every ticket is a pit pass. Like locker room access at a professional ballgame, walk the midway, experience race cars up close and person and watch as race teams tinker with vehicles between rounds all for free built into your ticket. Keep your head on a swivel! The pro drivers signing autographs and taking photographs in the midway are a common sight.

Featuring an air-cooled, beverage and food tent, the Mike’s Hard Lemonade Finish Line Club is dressed to the nine’s with seating and a gorgeous view of Bandimere Speedway’s top-end as Top Fuel Dragsters and Top Fuel Funny Cars hit the 300mph barrier.

The Mike’s Hard Lemonade Finish Line Club overlooks Bandimere Speedway’s finish line, while also providing an escape from the elements and a place to relax right next to the pit area!

  • The Top Eliminator Club experience

The best seat in the house is the Top Eliminator Club! Featuring padded seating at a unique one-of-a-kind angle, the Top Eliminator Club allows for viewing and luxury leisure as patrons experience air-conditioned, catered food and drink and terrific views of the racing action.

Truly the best seat in the house and the ability to experience everything that drag racing has to offer as you step into the pit area right outside the Top Eliminator Club!
